Free Training to Avoid Violence in the Workplace -
(Nampa, April 19, 2010) Free training is being offered by Nampa Police Department Crime Prevention to help local businesses try to avoid or deal with violence that may happen in the workplace.

Violence in the workplace can have devastating effects on the productivity of organizations and on the quality of life of employees. However, relatively few employers have established effective programs to combat the problem. Nampa Police wanted to provide a proactive approach to help local businesses. They have brought in Instructor Edward Leach of Leach Consulting, LLC who is a coordinator of the Law Enforcement program at North Idaho College. Leach regularly teaches “Violence in the Workplace” to businesses, schools and organizations.

Nampa FJC Executive Director Honored -
(Nampa, April 13, 2010) Nampa Family Justice Center Executive Director, Rebecca Lovelace, will receive the Outstanding Victim Services Award on Tuesday, April 20, 11AM at the Canyon County Courthouse Courtyard. The award is on behalf of the Idaho Victim Witness Association.

Rebecca was chosen because of her dedication to the Nampa Family Justice Center and her passion for FJC to continue to provide the best service to victims. She has worked tirelessly to gain community partnerships to assist victims of domestic violence, sexual assault and child abuse.

Rebecca has previously been recognized by the National Family Justice Center Alliance as a valued partner in the Family Justice Center movement. They have utilized her to consult at Family Justice Centers across the country to bring her knowledge and experience to assist their organizations. She has also been personally selected by Gael Strack and Casey Quinn the past three years to teach at the International Family Justice Center Conference. Rebecca has worked with the Alliance to participate in a pilot program for the Verizon Electronic Document Storage Program. She is currently working with the Alliance on a National Family Justice Center evaluation. She has also worked tirelessly on obtaining accreditation to make the Family Justice Center a Child Advocacy Center as well.

Road Construction Update -
(Nampa, April 9, 2010) – The following is a road construction update for projects within the City of Nampa.

Fargo Avenue between N. Franklin Boulevard and N. 20th Street will remain closed to through traffic while crews work on underground utilities. Drivers should use E. Karcher Road as a detour. Estimated completion: April 30.

Southside Blvd. between E. Locust Lane and E. Lewis Lane remains closed to through traffic while crews install underground utilities. Drivers should use S. Powerline Road as a detour. Estimated completion: May 4.

N. Franklin Boulevard between Karcher Road and I-84 continues to be reduced to one lane in each direction as crews work on underground utilities. Drivers should allow extra travel time if using this area. Estimated completion: April 9.

N. Midland Blvd between W. Cherry Lane and Ustick Road will reclose to through traffic beginning Tuesday, April 6 while crew mill the existing road surface and re-pave the road. Drivers should use Northside Boulevard as a detour. Estimated completion: April 22.

Intersection of Happy Valley Road & Greenhurst Road remains closed to through traffic while crews install a new round-a-bout at the intersection. Crews will be working on Seepage Beds, fine grading of aggregate import base and will begin installing concrete curbing. Drivers should give themselves extra time in this area and pay close attention to the detour signs. Signs directing drivers to local businesses should also be noted. Estimated completion: June 30.

I-84 and Garrity Boulevard Idaho Transportation Department project: Motorists driving westbound on I-84 between the Robinson Road Overpass and the Garrity Interchange can expect overnight lane restrictions from 10 p.m. to 5 a.m. Friday and Saturday (April 9-10) for construction on the Garrity Interchange. Weather permitting, I-84 westbound will be reduced to one lane between the Robinson Road Overpass and Garrity Interchange.

I-84 is reduced to one lane in each direction most nights, between 10 p.m. and 5 a.m., excluding weekends, between the Franklin Interchange and Robinson Road Overpass while crews work along the shoulders. Both lanes will be open by the morning commute and during the day. Lane reductions are not expected to occur often on Friday or Saturday nights during this road-widening project.

The project is expected to be completed by summer 2011, with three lanes open in each direction over the bridge, eventually connecting with a fourth lane in each direction east of the interchange.

Mayor’s Community Prayer Breakfast -
(Nampa, April 8, 2010) The Nampa Kiwanis Club is sponsoring the Mayor’s Community Prayer Breakfast, Thursday, May 6, 7:00 AM. The public is invited to join Mayor Tom Dale and the Nampa Kiwanis Club for this event.

This year’s keynote speaker will be Dr. David Alexander, President Northwest Nazarene University. Live music will be performed by the Kiwanis RAD Choir. A breakfast buffet will also be served.

Applications Available for Nampa Mayor’s Golf Scholarship -
(Nampa, April 6, 2010) Mayor Tom Dale is encouraging seniors from Nampa area high school golf teams to apply for the Nampa Mayor’s Golf Scholarship. Each year the Nampa Golf Commission hosts the Mayor’s Annual Golf Tournament, which raises the money for the scholarships and helps support Nampa Junior Golf. The amount of the scholarships will depend on the amount of money raised at the tournament, but the hope is to award $2000 to each recipient.

Applications must be into the Mayor’s Office by 5PM April 19, 2010. Students must meet the following qualifications:

 Student must be a member of a high school golf team
 Student must be a senior in high school
 Student’s parent or guardian must live in Nampa or in Nampa’s area of impact
 Student must have a great attitude
 Student should have financial need

Applications have been sent to Senior Class Counselors and High School Golf Coaches at Columbia High, Nampa High, Skyview High, Vallivue High, and Nampa Christian High, Liberty Charter and Victory Charter. Students can also pick up applications at Mayor Tom Dale’s office.

The Nampa Mayor’s Golf Tournament is at Centennial Golf Course, Friday, May 7, 2010. The scholarships will be presented to the winners at the luncheon immediately following the tournament.

Four person teams from the community are invited to participate in the Mayor’s Golf Tournament, however space is limited. There are still opportunities for Hole Sponsorships.
