Fire Fighters Team with Local Business for Training -
(January 31, 2012) Adam Haynes, owner of Rolling H Cycles, will open his doors to customers in March, but he opened his doors to Nampa firefighters for training a few days ago. Haynes allowed firefighters to conduct large area search drills using both search ropes and Thermal imaging cameras. A commercial fog machine gave crews zero visibility for the realistic training.

In Friday’s training scenario Haynes met the fire crew at the storefront and told them his business partner was inside. Firefighters then search in zero visibility to locate the victim and take the victim to safety.

Crews from five ALS Engines, a Ladder Truck and a Battalions chief were involved with the training. In all 21 fire personnel rotated into the training, while making sure the city was covered in case of emergencies throughout the day.

Conducting training in partnership with local businesses is a win-win situation for both firefighters and business owners. Firefighters get a good understanding of the contents and layout of the building. If there were ever an actual fire, crews also know what areas within the building are most important or valuable for the business owners and can plan operations accordingly. Businesses owners get a first hand understanding of preventative measures like proper exits, smoke detectors and fire extinguishers.

###
Definitions:
ALS Engine is the fire truck with primary responsibility of putting water on the fire. Staffed with a Paramedic and EMT’s, this crew responds to medical emergencies and car accidents.

Ladder Truck (also known as Truck Company) is a specialized vehicle with a 100’ ladder that can reach the tallest buildings in Nampa. Its primary focus in a fire incident is forcible entry, search, rescue and ventilation. The Truck responds to motor vehicle accidents primarily when specialized tools and manpower are needed.

Battalion Chief is in charge of the firefighters on duty for the day. He orchestrates and commands larger incidents and maintains staffing for the city.
